Facebook's New News Feed - Business Insider

Facebook has scheduled a press event at its Menlo Park, Calif., HQ, for 10 a.m. PST. to launch a new redesign of the News Feed in your Facebook account.

Here's a copy of the press invitation:

Facebook

It's invitation-only.

The News Feed is crucial to Facebook's advertising client base. Both desktop and mobile ads are served into the News Feed, and are often most effective there (compared to those display ads on the right side of the page). Facebook has increased the amount of ads appearing in the News Feed, with little pushback from users.

One obvious issue to look for in the redesign is: Just how many ads can News Feed hold, per user, before users start to rebel? Any News Feed redesign will have to please both users and the advertisers targeting them.

Last time Facebook scheduled one of these events it launched Graph Search, the new tool that lets you search your friends' likes for advice on things to do.

The News Feed ? that river of status updates where you read about your friends' latest exploits ? has been tweaked several times in its history. For instance, users can now sort news items by most recent or "Top Stories."

Facebook also added a separate "Pages Feed" of posts from companies and advertisers that are often promotional in nature. Users can see all posts from companies they're fans of in that feed.
