General Motors (GM) is planning to manufacture about 500,000 hybrid or electric vehicles (EV) per year by 2017 as part of the company?s aggressive electric vehicle plan.

The GM electric brand for excellence is the Chevrolet Volt, but GM will launch soon the Spark EV model at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Spark EV is GM?s direct competition to the Nissan?s Leaf and Ford?s Focus electric. The distribution markets are considering for start in the U.S. and South Korea markets.

The carmaker is about to release into the market a new Spark Battery Electric Vehicle next year and has plans to build a new plug-in Cadillac ELR coupe with the same technology that powers the Volt in order to reach its ambitious investments in alternative fuel and advanced propulsion technologies.

Various technologies are involved including plug-in electrics, pure electrics and hybrids that use the e-Assist technology[1].

So far GM has sold 50,000 alternative energy cars with some form of electrification technologies that include the Volt and eAssist light electrification technology on vehicles including the Buick LaCrosse, Regal and Chevrolet Malibu.

In addition to building the next-generation hybrid and plug-in hybrid, GM is bringing battery system design and development in-house but the transmission assembly and the hybrid engines are manufactured outside US, for instance at their GM Mexico Manufacturing Company.

GM also is one of the leading users of renewable energy in the manufacturing sector.?For instance, the San Luis Potosi, Mexico vehicle assembly plant was designed to reduce water consumption by 30 million gallons per year. The wastewater is pumped into an on-site treatment facility for re-use at their same Mexico Maquiladora plant.

For starters, what is a Pit Bull? Because a dog resembles a certain 'type' many might describe as a Pit Bull, in fact, doesn't mean that dog actually has any Pit Bull in the genes.?Truth is, what a dog looks like can be misleading to what any dog really is (I like to say it in a fancy way, phenotype doesn't necessarily match genotype).

Breed bans (banning breeds, most often any dog identified as a Pit Bull) are worthless, and should in themselves be illegal. These are laws which are in the first place based on faulty logic, and secondly, after decades of these laws - we know they don't work.

NEW YORK (AP) ? A garment salesman was arrested on charges he systematically killed three shopkeepers as they worked alone in their clothing stores after a pharmacy worker recognized him from surveillance footage. Authorities believe the man had been poised to strike again.

Police said Salvatore Perrone, 63, was taken into custody Wednesday in the suspected serial killings that scores of New York City detectives were investigating.

A pharmacy worker recognized him as the balding man shown in surveillance footage leaving the scene of the most recent shooting, Nov. 16, with a duffel bag, police said.

Another shopkeeper came forward and said Perrone had gone into his store and questioned him about whether he worked alone and when he closed, police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

"It's reasonable to assume he was going to keep doing this, and, by arresting him, we saved lives," Kelly said at a news conference.

Perrone, of Staten Island, was arrested on charges of murder. He was in custody Wednesday and couldn't be reached for comment. A message left on his cellphone was not returned, and it was unclear if he had an attorney.

Detectives said they found the duffel bag at his girlfriend's home. Inside, they said, was a sawed-off rifle used in the killings, along with .22-caliber ammunition, black gloves, women's clothing, a bloody knife and a bottle of bleach.

Perrone's fingerprint was lifted from the murder weapon, Kelly said.

Initially, authorities thought the killer might have targeted the Brooklyn shopkeepers, who were from Iran and Egypt, because of their Middle Eastern backgrounds. But on Wednesday Kelly said there was no motive he could speak of.

In the most recent killing, Rahmatollah Vahidipour, an Iranian, was shot three times in the head and chest at his store, the She She Boutique.

After that killing, detectives discovered the same gun was used in the fatal shootings of two other shopkeepers when ballistics matched the .22-caliber gun shell casings on all three. On July 6, Mohamed Gebeli, an Egyptian, was found shot in the back of his shop, Valentino Fashion Inc. On Aug. 6, Isaac Kadare, also Egyptian, was shot in the head in his store, Amazing 99 Cent Deal.

There were other similarities in the deaths, authorities said: The bodies were all partially obscured, by clothing or, in one case, a box. The locations of the shops form an equilateral triangle and are about 4 miles apart, with addresses that contain the number eight.

Police earlier this week said they were looking to speak to four people who possibly witnessed the most recent killing and released video and clear images of the four. But they zeroed in on the man with the bag, who they now say was Perrone.

Kelly called Perrone "talkative" with detectives and said he made incriminating statements. But Kelly refused to reveal what Perrone said.

Police said they believe Perrone carried the murder weapon in the bag and traveled by subway.

Perrone, a Brooklyn native, is divorced and lives with his girlfriend. He went store to store trying to sell clothing, police said, but it was unclear if he had tried to sell to any of the victims.

Perrone was arrested in Franconia Township, Pa., in 2001 and charged with stalking, harassment, burglary and public drunkenness, but those charges were dropped when he pleaded guilty to a trespassing charge.
