Salary Range:????????????? Grade 5-7 ($14.56 per hour to $17.46 to start)
Responsible for planning and implementing individualized, daily educational program for a group of pre-school aged children in a multicultural, multilingual, bias free environment.
1.?????? AA, BA or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education, or course work equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education;
2.?????? One year of experience teaching pre-school children;
3.?????? Knowledge of and ability to implement developmentally appropriate, multicultural, and bias free curriculum;
4.?????? Able to lift and potentially carry a child weighing up to 50 pounds;
5.?????? Able to routinely kneel, bend, crouch, and sit on the floor for extended periods of time;
6.?????? Food Handlers Permit;
7.?????? Able to stand, walk and sit on child sized chairs throughout the day;
8.?????? Able to communicate in English verbally and in writing;
9.?????? Access to a reliable source of transportation; and,
10.??? Bi-lingual in a language spoken by a DLEC parents ? Spanish or Somali preferred.

Job Duties
Classroom Management and Curriculum Planning
1.???????????? Interact with children in a manner that allows them to learn through curiosity, experimentation, and play.? Look for opportunities during interactions to extend learning and act on them.
2.???????????? Supervise and monitor children at all times; set up and monitor children?s learning environment and activities in the classroom, during off-site events, and on the playground to ensure their safety, and to ensure a positive learning environment.
3.???????????? Manage children?s behavior using positive guidance techniques; limit setting, clear and consistent expectations, the Second Step principles of teaching children empathy, problem-solving, and anger-management, and the DECA principles of strengthening children?s attachment, self-control, and initiative.
4.???????????? Maintain emergency contact and health information for children, and implement health plans and/or medication administration for children, as needed.
5.???????????? Adhere to all OSPI requirements and Head Start performance standards relating to food service such as, hand washing, serving food family style, Documenting meal counts at the time of the meal, encouraging children to try a variety of foods by modeling family style meals, Using meal time as an opportunity for conversation and learning, and posting current menus and nutrition information.
6.???????????? Plan for and facilitate smooth transitions.
7.???????????? Ensure completion of Developmental (Ages & Stages) and Behavioral (DECA) screenings, if applicable.?
8.???????????? Maintain a written individual plan for each child, and use it to plan individualized, developmentally appropriate activities.
9.???????????? Write and implement weekly, individualized lesson plans which address social/emotional, cognitive/linguistic, and physical development for all children, and include monthly nutrition, health & safety activities.
10.???????? Write lesson plans and prepare materials/arrange the physical environment according to:
a.???????????? The principles of child development, and DLEC curriculum (Creative Curriculum, Second Step Curriculum, and Anti-Bias Curriculum)
b.???????????? Information from all screenings health (height, weight, vision, & hearing), behavioral (DECA), and developmental screenings (Ages & Stages)
c.???????????? Individual strengths, interests and educational goals of each child determined from ongoing assessment through child observations and portfolio collections, and the outcomes checklist.
d.???????????? Home and second language skills and culture of each child?develop and implement a classroom language plan that helps children to develop English fluency and reinforce their home language.? Ensure representation of individual children?s home language and culture in the classroom environment and through the classroom language plan.
e.???????????? Goals written in a child?s individual education plan (IEP) as applicable.? Incorporate these goals into the child?s individual plan and develop activities with input and support from the special services team.? Support and relate positively to children and families with special needs.
Teaming
1.?????? Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings to plan for and implement collaborative, high quality services.
2.?????? Work with Center Supervisor and your classroom team to develop and implement staff schedules and breaks in a manner that supports children?s safety and learning environment.
3.?????? Provide guidance and direction to teaching assistants, substitute teachers and volunteers.
4.?????? Participate in staffings to individualize services to children and families.
5.?????? Attend staff trainings and meetings and encourage a climate of continuous learning within your team.
Parent Involvement
1.?????? Conduct home visits and conferences in a manner that provides individualized information and gets parent input for the curriculum.? Share emerging information with your team on a regular basis.
2.?????? Maintain classroom and hallway bulletin boards that provide current parent information and represent children?s interests and learning.
3.?????? Promote the involvement of parents in the program by encouraging parents to:
a.?????? Volunteer in the classroom or on field trips, as a parent environmental volunteer, and/or on the Policy Council and other committees.
b.?????? Inform teachers of strengths, interests and needs of their child at conferences, home visits or at any other time; give suggestions and feedback on the curriculum or give lesson plan or theme ideas; or come to the classroom to do a parent observation of their child.
1.?????? Ensure timely, accurate completion of reporting documentation (such as height and weight screenings), education monthly reports, attendance and meal count forms, janitorial feedback forms, and other record-keeping as needed.
2.?????? Regularly assist in inventory of classroom materials and requesting classroom supplies.
3.?????? Ensure timely, accurate completion of education file documents such as:
b.???????? Conference and home visit forms (4x/year, or documented three attempts and reason it didn?t occur)
c.???????? Anecdotal evidence of child?s developmental progress on child observation forms (monthly) and through children?s portfolio items (ongoing)
4.?????? Maintain children?s education file documents and lesson plans in a secure, organized system for easy reference by all team members.? Ensure that they show thorough documentation of the following:
a.???????? Parent communication?input into the curriculum and parent input on their child?s goals
b.???????? Staff observations of child interests, strengths, needs, and goals
c.???????? Health, developmental, and behavioral screening and ongoing assessment (and early identification of special needs if applicable)
d.???????? Integration of observations and communication with parents and staff for maintenance of each child?s individual plan and Individualized lesson planning
1.?????? Assist with general maintenance, organization, and security of the facility
2.?????? Attend and/or support in meetings as assigned.
